Most homeowners who have employed a reputable air duct cleaning technician are oftentimes pleased with the outcome. While there isn’t any scientific proof to prove that vent cleaning has a significant and direct benefit, specialists agree there is some advantage to having air duct cleaning done, especially if you employ a skilled professional in cleaning air ducts.
The NADCA suggests getting air ducts cleaned every 3 – 5 years.
When should you clean air ducts?
The EPA suggests cleaning air ducts if you:
• Have suspicions that mold exists inside air ducts.
• See a vermin infestation some place in the house, or you see rodents or insects exiting or entering ductwork.
• Notice a visible “poof” of dust that is released from the supply registers as air is leaving the vents.
Air duct cleaning benefits
Most specialists, which include the Environmental Protection Agency, haven’t endorsed air duct cleaning as a treatment for health problems, yet cleaners say they have amassed an increasing body of anecdotal proof that it provides some benefit.
If you’re dealing with asthma, your main enemy is dust mites. Plus, for those who have allergies, dander and pollen are a huge issue. These are microscopic components you cannot see with a naked eye, and they commonly are discovered in air ducts. A thorough cleaning removes a lot of them.
But, the National Air Duct Cleaners Association standards caution that those elements only will be extracted by a full cleaning which addresses all parts of the system which air moves across, and not simply the air ducts.
Good cleaners will use a negative air machine and rotary brush cable system. This brush will go through the ducts and knock the debris loose, and negative air machine will vacuum it away.
