Cold or Mold

It’s true what they say, you know? The best things in life really are free!

mold removal servicesTake natural sunlight for example, it is absolutely, positively free! Yet somehow, we don’t seem to appreciate sunny days the way that we really should, until we’ve barely made it through a long, hard, cold and dark winter, emerging with pathetically depleted vitamin D reserves and ‘sub-zero’ serotonin levels.

Oh, the simple things in life!

Weather-wise, this past week was simply amazing in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. We were finally endowed with an abundance of sunlight, gentle breeze, life, love and plain old happiness.

As well as, well…. achoo! achoo!

Is that a cold, or a mold allergy?

According to Mayo Clinic:

“Mold allergy causes the same signs and symptoms that occur in other types of upper respiratory allergies. Signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis caused by mold allergy can include:

  • Sneezing
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Cough and postnasal drip
  • Itchy eyes, nose and throat
  • Watery eyes
  • Dry, scaly skin

So, in ‘lay-man’s’ terms, this is pretty much telling us that it can be rather difficult to tell whether your sniffles are ‘cold related’ or ‘mold related?’

Here at Triangle Legacy, we believe that ‘prevention is better than cure’, period! We would therefore like to leave you with a few tips to make your home just a little more mold-resistant.

Tips on how make your home more mold resistant

  • Audit your home, scout for ‘problem areas’ and subsequently fix them!
    • Flood-prone basement?
      • Consider water-proofing;
      • Install a functioning sump pump.
    • Water-stained ceiling?
      • Check for roof leaks;
      • Clogged and/or broken gutters.
    • Condensation on windows?
      • Replace window(s) and/or seals?
    • Equip your home with mold resistant products like:
      • Mold resistant drywall;
      • Paint with Mold Inhibitors.
    • Freebie
      • Don’t leave wet items lying around. Dry immediately because mold thrives on moisture.
    • Direct water spouts away from building.

Yes, at the moment, its beautiful outside…….

However, let’s not forget that Fall and Winter will be back again in ‘no time.’

In the meantime, enjoy the sun!

Cheers,

Triangle Legacy!
