Spring is just around the Corner: Home Maintenance Tips!

springSpringtime & ‘New Beginnings’, go ‘hand in hand’! As temperatures rise and flowers bloom, both animals and humans alike, ‘do away’ with the ‘winter blues’ come out from hibernation! The earth is alive again! ……promising ‘second chances’ to all who lie in ‘her’ wake! How therapeutic it is, to be able to go out into the sunshine again and subconsciously replenish our depleted serotonin levels as well as top up our diminishing Vitamin D reserves! Oh, the things we take for granted!

It’s true what they say, you know? The best things in life really are free! Take natural sunlight for example, it’s 100% free! Yet somehow, we don’t really appreciate sunny days the way we should, until we’ve survived a long, cold and dark winter!

Reality Check!

As welcoming as the weather typically is in March, the old idiom ‘April Showers bring May flowers’ still stands true. Simply stated…..Alert! Rainy Season Ahead! So, even though we are ‘allowed’ to bask in the novelty of the new life that March brings, we must also be proactive about the almost guaranteed impending rainy season that typically follows in April. Besides………

As spring progresses, we tend to experience longer daylight hours, which implies that there is a greater likelihood for all of our ‘broken and unsightly parts’ to be exposed!

The Big, the Bad & the ‘Uglies’….. Nobody wants the ‘world’ to see their ‘big, bad & uglies!’

From the outside ……..

  • Broken and/or missing roof shingles;
  • Leaf filled gutters;
  • Damaged window frames
  • Cracked sidewalks

And from the inside…….

  • Microbe infested air supply ducts that ‘rewards’ anyone who cares to visit, with an allergic reaction!
  • A potential fire hazard as a result of clogged dryer vents.

The old adage ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, certainly does NOT apply here! If you don’t want to ‘break’ the bank’ in the near future, it might behoove you to repair and replace a few things as soon as you feasibly can……before they little becomes much! In other words, ignoring a potential issue doesn’t make it go away, it just makes it worse!

The Checklist

From the ground, meticulously examine the shingles on your roof to see if you spot any that are cracked, buckled or loose, and repair or replace as needed.
